Greenlands Primary

Summer Learning

Our focus this term is 'connect'. Connect with the people around you. With family, friends, and neighbours. At home, school or in your local community.

In English the children will be using the book Wolf Brother. Children will use this book as a stimulus for their writing. They will focus on myths, instructions and persuasive writing.

In maths this term the children will be consolidating their problem solving and reasoning skillsDon't forget to direct your children to the the TTRockstars website to practise their times tables, this is a really exciting website and children love it!!

Children will be exploring the drawing of Tom Lea who was an American muralist, illustrator, artist, war correspondent, novelist, and historian. The bulk of his art and literary works were about Texas, north-central Mexico, and his World War II experience in the South Pacific and Asia. Children will also investigate emotions in photography.

In science children complete their learning about Evolution and Inheritance. Children will recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago. They will recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents. They will also identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution.

In PE children will be focusing on rounders skills. These include hitting a bowled ball out into the field, controlling the speed and direction of the ball when bowling, moving into the correct position or space to catch a ball that is thrown or hit into the field, accurately throw a ball overarm or underarm to reach a designated target and choosing and applying relevant tactics during a game according to an agreed strategy.

Please make sure that your child has a full PE kit including either trainers or plimsoles, a dark pair of jogging bottoms and a dark sweat shirt would also be a great idea as PE lessons will have to take place outside for the foreseeable future.
