Mindfulness

What is mindfulness?

Professor Mark Williams, former director of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, says that mindfulness means knowing directly what is going on inside and outside ourselves, moment by moment.

It's easy to stop noticing the world around us. It's also easy to lose touch with the way our bodies are feeling and to end up living 'in our heads' – caught up in our thoughts without stopping to notice how those thoughts are driving our emotions and behaviour

How mindfulness helps mental wellbeing

Becoming more aware of the present moment can help us enjoy the world around us more and understand ourselves better.

Mindfulness exercises help children get better in touch with their thoughts and feelings. With increased awareness of how they are feeling in the moment, comes less emotional reactivity and a greater ability to listen and communicate more thoughtfully and effectively.

Our Commitment

We believe that wellbeing is a clear indicator of academic achievement and success in later life, which is why we have a whole school approach to prioritise our children's and staff's wellbeing.

Worries and Anxiety

what parents need to know about worry and anxiety.pdf

If your child has any worries in school, there are several ways these can be shared:

Year 2 -6 - Worry Boxes - children can drop a note into the worry box to share their concerns.

Year 3 - 6 - Think Books - children can write their concerns in their Think Book and leave these for the teacher to read.

Worry Button - The worry button on our website is for children who have a concern. They can fill out a simple form to alert staff.

When children approach staff with a concern, this is always dealt with in a sensitive and age appropriate manner in order to reassure and support the child's well-being.
