Picture News
At Greenlands Primary School, we use Picture News to support our children’s personal development, knowledge of British Values and understanding of Protected Characteristics.
Through the discussion of newsworthy topics, we support the children to understand their place in the world beyond the family home and our school. This encourages their view of themselves as global citizens.
Each topic is introduced in Monday’s assembly, with different viewpoints introduced. Then in the subsequent assembly the viewpoints are discussed and debated. This allows the children to consider the views of others in a thoughtful and safe environment. Our debates are often lively and filled with interesting viewpoints!
The children’s ideas are celebrated on the Picture News display board and recorded in the termly scrapbooks.
The following documents are the topics we have discussed each week for you to discuss further with your child at home. Please let us know any interesting thoughts or comments you and your child have – you can do this via email or your child’s homework book. We look forward to reading them!
